Nomophobia

First off, do you guys know what Nomophobia is? Well, if you are the type of person who can’t live without a mobile phone contact then, as my mom would say, “You have a problem, you’re going to get cancer if you don’t stop carrying that phone around!” and “I, I HAVE A PROBLEM”. I don’t know about the Cancer part, but I do know, leaving the house without my phone is awkward, I feel a piece of me missing without it. What would I do when I need to take a selfie of myself or some cute guy I meet? How would I get his number or stalk him on ig? How would I wake in the mornings? And I know a lot of people who would turn back for their phones if they left it at home.

There are like 4 types of nomophobes (no-mobile phone phobia). There are the Broken Nomo, Lost Nomo, Useless Nomo and the Stolen Nomo. I know many of you have come across one of these, if not, all of them. I personally have been through the broken and definitely the useless, but hey I survived, they weren’t total, Um…. CRAP!

Ok, real talk. I decided to do a brief post about this because technology (Smartphone’s) in this society I believe is a weakness and distraction; disregarding its use in making “emergency calls and doing research”. When going to school, sometimes I take the bus and ride the train and there are always people who are on their phones whether on a call, texting or listening to music (myself included) and not to mention those who I see driving… while on their phone (texting)… yes, this does happen. Sometimes I wonder how alert we are.

Not to mention those who fall asleep with it in hand, those who can’t concentrate on work and school when it is out of hand and those who have public speaking and spelling issues because they are so use to talking through a Smartphone. So, Should I state all the obvious problems that may occur? I rather not, because I think it pretty self explanatory. Well, not pretty but, you know what I mean. Everything has its pro and con, that’s just how life works.

For those who have nomophobia there are 3 ways to help you “distance” yourself a little from your mobile below. You can also tell me below what kind of nomo you fit in and some ways you think can help those with nomophobia or what you did when you had no mobile phone.
1. Avoid going online often. (Internet Junkies)
2. Find a hobby that doesn’t involve being on social media. Read more books
3. Communicate more with people in person rather than through an object.
